A RESOLUTION
Recognizing June 15, 2026, as "World Elder Abuse Awareness Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, In fiscal year 2024-2025, more than 66,000 Statewide
reports of elder abuse were received, and more than 15,700 of
those cases were substantiated through investigation, with the
number of suspicious death reports totaling 154; and
WHEREAS, The top three forms of substantiated abuse were
self-neglect, caregiver neglect and financial exploitation; and
WHEREAS, A total of 1,317 reports of elder abuse in this
Commonwealth originated from mandated abuse reports, reflecting
a 45% increase over the past five years; and
WHEREAS, Risk factors that increase the likelihood of abuse,
neglect, exploitation or abandonment include living alone,
social isolation, physical or cognitive incapacitation and more;
and
WHEREAS, The National Center on Elder Abuse is observing
"World Elder Abuse Awareness Day" on June 15, 2026; and

WHEREAS, "World Elder Abuse Awareness Day" was launched by
the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse in
2006 and recognized as a United Nations Observance in 2011; and
WHEREAS, "World Elder Abuse Awareness Day" calls attention to
the issue of elder abuse and serves as a reminder for
individuals, communities, lawmakers and organizations to do
their part in helping to identify and prevent elder abuse;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize June
15, 2026, as "World Elder Abuse Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives continue to
support efforts to protect the health, safety and welfare of
older adults in this Commonwealth and urge all Pennsylvanians to
take an active stand against elder abuse by promoting vigilance,
education and community awareness of this critical issue.
