A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of August 2 through 8, 2026, as "National
Health Center Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Community health centers are clinics that serve
uninsured and underinsured people through low-cost health care,
especially primary care, and reduce barriers to that care, such
as travel and language; and
WHEREAS, Community health centers include federally qualified
health centers, look-alike clinics, rural health clinics and
other similar providers; and
WHEREAS, Originally called neighborhood health centers,
community health centers were first created in 1965; and
WHEREAS, Today, community health centers still play an
essential role in delivering affordable health care to low-
income families and those who live in areas that are health care
deserts; and
WHEREAS, Across the country, community health centers create
more than 300,000 jobs, pay more than $2 billion in taxes
annually, and save billions in Medicaid costs; and

WHEREAS, Approximately 1 million Pennsylvanians, or 1 in 13,
visit a community health center each year; and
WHEREAS, One in three people in rural areas in the United
States utilizes a community health center; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth operates a network of 59 state
health centers that also serve communities in similar ways to
independent community health centers; and
WHEREAS, Providing access to affordable, high-quality health
care across this Commonwealth makes our communities stronger;
and
WHEREAS, The theme for National Health Center Week this year
is "Building Innovative Care Where It Matters Most," which
celebrates how community health centers use creativity and
commitment to advance innovative solutions that meet patients
where they are and improve primary care delivery, access and
outcomes nationwide; and
WHEREAS, The health care professionals and staff at community
health centers deserve recognition for their essential role in
keeping Pennsylvanians healthy; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of August 2 through 8, 2026, as "National Health Center
Week" in Pennsylvania.
