A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of September 12 through 18, 2026, as
"Neonatal Nurses Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses serve an especially vulnerable
population, newborn infants; and
WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses may need to provide care to infants
with a wide range of health care conditions, including feeding,
breathing and heart problems and birth defects; and
WHEREAS, Nurses in the neonatal intensive care unit provide
around-the-clock specialized care, often to sick or preterm
infants; and
WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses, including nurses in the neonatal
intensive care unit, are trained to work in a variety of high-
stress and sometimes high-acuity environments; and
WHEREAS, The environment of their work and their role in
providing care to infants with complex needs requires neonatal
nurses to be trained to use devices such as ventilators and
infusion pumps specifically for infants; and

WHEREAS, For infants under their care, neonatal nurses
conduct assessments, monitor vitals, provide feeding support and
administer medications when necessary; and
WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses work with providers in other
disciplines to coordinate infant care, advocate for their
patients and assist families in learning to care for their
infants upon discharge; and
WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses, and nurses working in the neonatal
intensive care unit, help families bond with their children
during a stressful and emotional time; and
WHEREAS, Their work as neonatal nurses improves survival
rates and neurological outcomes for infants; and
WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses perform lifesaving and life-changing
work every day to help ensure that infants can grow up to live
happy and healthy lives; and
WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses demonstrate outstanding skill and
professionalism while providing complex care to infants; and
WHEREAS, "Neonatal Nurses Week" is celebrated annually to
highlight the work and dedication of the nurses who provide care
to healthy infants and infants in the neonatal intensive care
unit; and
WHEREAS, "Neonatal Nurses Week" is an opportunity for the
House of Representatives to recognize and uplift the
contributions of neonatal nurses across this Commonwealth;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of September 12 through 18, 2026, as "Neonatal Nurses Week"
in Pennsylvania.
