A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of January 24 through 30, 2027, as
"Medicolegal Death Investigation Professionals Week" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, In cases of unexpected, unexplained or suspicious
death, medicolegal death investigation professionals are
responsible for determining the cause of death and whether a
criminal investigation is warranted; and
WHEREAS, Medicolegal death investigation professionals have
expertise in medicine and law to investigate cases under the
jurisdiction of a medical examiner or coroner; and
WHEREAS, Medicolegal death investigation professionals work
toward justice for victims who can no longer advocate for
themselves and represent the interests of decedents, families
and communities; and
WHEREAS, Medicolegal death investigation professionals work
with medical examiners and coroners to analyze the scene of a
death and the body of the decedent; and
WHEREAS, Medicolegal death investigation professionals

determine whether criminal activity is involved in a death and
collaborate with local law enforcement and forensic teams to
share findings; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 3,100 medicolegal death investigation
professionals work across the United States, representing a
specialized but essential workforce; and
WHEREAS, These professionals are highly trained to promote
public health and safety by ensuring that suspicious, violent,
unattended, unexplained and unexpected deaths are investigated;
and
WHEREAS, Medicolegal death investigation professionals work
with Federal, State and local agencies to ensure public safety;
and
WHEREAS, Medicolegal death investigation professionals
contribute to local and national public health databases
regarding injury, illness and disease; and
WHEREAS, The International Association of Coroners and
Medical Examiners recognizes "Medicolegal Death Investigation
Professionals Week" in January to honor these professionals and
their role in supporting public health and safety; and
WHEREAS, On March 23, 2024, the United States Senate agreed
to Senate Resolution 532 of the 118th Congress, recognizing and
supporting the goals and ideals of "National Medicolegal Death
Investigation Professionals Week"; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of January 24 through 30, 2027, as "Medicolegal Death
Investigation Professionals Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize that
this observance provides an opportunity to promote community

understanding of this indispensable workforce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
commitment of medicolegal death investigation professionals to
provide skilled, comprehensive and compassionate investigations
of deaths; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives acknowledge the
work of medicolegal death investigation professionals and their
contributions to public health, safety and local law enforcement
in this Commonwealth.
