A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life, service and memory of United States Army Air
Forces Corporal Glenn Hodak.
WHEREAS, Glenn Hodak was born March 17, 1922, in Cambridge
Springs, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hodak enlisted into the United States Army Air
Forces, to courageously serve this Commonwealth and Country in
World War II, achieving the rank of corporal; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Hodak became a member of the 93rd
Bombardment Squadron, 19th Bombardment Group, flying in a B-29
Superfortress Bomber, nicknamed the "Tall in the Saddle"; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Hodak was positioned as a tail gunner and
deployed for the Great Tokyo Air Raid on March 10, 1945; and
WHEREAS, The "Tall in the Saddle" flew with 300 American B-29
Superfortress bombers to drop 1,700 tons of incendiary bombs on
Tokyo, Japan; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Hodak and his crew members were shot down
and became prisoners of war until May 26, 1945, when Corporal

Hodak and others tragically perished in the May 1945 Tokyo
Prison Fire; and
WHEREAS, After the fire, the American Graves Registration
Service concluded that the remains represented 64 deceased
service members but only identified 25 through dental records;
and
WHEREAS, The remaining 39 servicemen, including Corporal
Glenn Hodak, were unidentified for over 80 years and laid to
rest at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Fort Bonifacio,
Taguig City, Philippines; and
WHEREAS, In April 2022, these servicemen were disinterred and
sent to a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency laboratory where
scientists, using dental records and anthropological analysis,
identified Corporal Hodak and notified his family on September
25, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Hodak's remains will return to the
Commonwealth with a military escort and be buried in Spring
Creek Cemetery with his mother and two brothers; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the life, service and memory
of United States Army Air Forces Corporal Glenn Hodak; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Senate observe, with dignity, Corporal
Hodak's return to this Commonwealth to be put to rest with his
family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate offer condolences to his loved
ones.
