A RESOLUTION
Designating April 4, 2026, as "School Librarian Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, School libraries across this Commonwealth exist to
provide young people with free access to a wide range of
educational resources, including books, digital media and
scholarly journals; and
WHEREAS, Schools employ librarians to manage these libraries
and fulfill this mission; and
WHEREAS, School librarians help cultivate a lifelong
appreciation for reading, encouraging students to explore
knowledge; and
WHEREAS, School librarians teach students the media and
informational literacy skills that they need to thrive in the
digital age; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania schools with a full-time certified
librarian saw more students scoring advanced on State reading
assessments; and

WHEREAS, Accomplishing these feats means choosing public
service over more lucrative careers requiring similar levels of
professional expertise; and
WHEREAS, The number of librarians employed in Pennsylvania
schools has fallen consistently for every academic year on
record; and
WHEREAS, Encouraging young people to join this profession
represents an act of public service to future generations; and
WHEREAS, "National School Librarian Day" is celebrated
annually on April 4 to honor school librarians' dedication to
their profession; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate April 4, 2026, as "School
Librarian Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate acknowledge the irreplaceable role
that school librarians play in the lives of young people across
this Commonwealth.
