A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 56th celebration of "Earth Day" on April 22,
2026, in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, On April 22, 1970, United States Senator Gaylord
Nelson of Wisconsin created the concept of "Earth Day" to
increase public awareness of the world's environmental problems;
and
WHEREAS, Increasingly, more individuals and communities
recognize and participate in "Earth Day" each year; and
WHEREAS, "Earth Day" is now observed in more than 190
countries worldwide, serving as a powerful reminder that
environmental stewardship is a shared global responsibility; and
WHEREAS, The necessity for individuals, communities and
governments to protect the planet is more essential now than
ever, particularly for the people of this Commonwealth who
recognize that environmental protection is vital to public
health, economic stability and the well-being of all living
things; and
WHEREAS, All living things have intrinsic value and each

plays a unique role in the complex web of life; and
WHEREAS, The theme of "Earth Day" 2026 is "Our Power, Our
Planet," which highlights the collective strength of
individuals, communities and governments to drive meaningful
environmental change and accelerate the transition to a more
sustainable and resilient future; and
WHEREAS, "Earth Day" 2026 emphasizes that the power to
protect our planet lies in our choices and public policies,
including advancing renewable energy, reducing pollution,
preserving natural habitats and investing in sustainable
infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, "Earth Day" continues to promote environmentally
responsible practices, including recycling, energy efficiency,
reducing waste and the use of environmentally friendly products;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the 56th celebration of
"Earth Day" on April 22, 2026, in Pennsylvania; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage the residents of this
Commonwealth to take meaningful action to protect the
environment and support the goals of "Earth Day" 2026 to ensure
a sustainable future for generations to come.
