A RESOLUTION
Honoring the 100th anniversary of the Curtis Institute of Music.
WHEREAS, The Curtis Institute of Music was founded in
Philadelphia and celebrated its 100th anniversary on October 13,
2024; and
WHEREAS, The Curtis Institute of Music is a world-class
conservatory that has cultivated and refined generations of
peerless musicians; and
WHEREAS, The Curtis Institute of Music reflects the vision of
its founder, Mary Louise Curtis Bok, by opening its doors to
young musicians across the world and offering quality music
education tuition-free since 1928; and
WHEREAS, The Curtis Institute of Music alumni, including
Leonard Bernstein, Yuja Wang and Samuel Barber, have bestowed on
the world a century of music that has touched and enriched
innumerable lives, extending the bounds of human connection and
capacity; and
WHEREAS, Curtis alumni have gone on to lead, found and

bolster Philadelphia's illustrious musical institutions,
including its Orchestra, Chamber Music Society, Opera Company
and Woodwind Quintet; and
WHEREAS, Beyond the bounds of our city, Commonwealth and
country, Curtis alumni grace the world's premier musical
ensembles, orchestras and opera houses, forging new frontiers in
composition and performance; and
WHEREAS, In the century since its founding, more than 4,400
students have called the Curtis Institute of Music home; and
WHEREAS, The school continues to embrace Mary Louise Curtis
Bok's vision of a musical family that is equitable, worldwide
and united in its love for the craft; and
WHEREAS, The Curtis Institute of Music's example is a beacon
to music lovers everywhere and for those who believe in the
possibilities wrought from talent and determination; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the Curtis Institute of Music
for its 100th anniversary and recognize the Curtis Institute of
Music for its countless contributions to arts and culture in
Philadelphia and across the world.
