A RESOLUTION
Recognizing April 29, 2026, as "World Wish Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is
"Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with
critical illnesses"; and
WHEREAS, The Make-A-Wish Foundation has been granting life-
changing wishes for children and families for more than 45
years; and
WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish International now brings the hope and
joy of granting wishes to more than 50 countries and territories
on six continents; and
WHEREAS, The Make-A-Wish Foundation currently has 57 chapters
across the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than
650,000 wishes worldwide with the help of donors and more than
27,000 volunteers; and
WHEREAS, In fiscal year 2025, active Make-A-Wish chapters in
Pennsylvania granted 686 wishes to children with critical

illnesses in our community; and
WHEREAS, A child is diagnosed with a critical illness every
20 minutes; and
WHEREAS, Research suggests that the granting of a wish can
give children the strength to fight harder against critical
illness; and
WHEREAS, A wish provides renewed hope, uplifts the spirits of
children and can unite neighbors, friends and communities; and
WHEREAS, "World Wish Day" celebrates the anniversary of the
fulfillment of the first wish in April 1980 that inspired the
creation of the Make-A-Wish Foundation; and
WHEREAS, "World Wish Day" was first officially celebrated
April 29, 2010; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize April 29, 2026, as "World
Wish Day" in Pennsylvania.
