A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 8, 2025, as "International Women's Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Senate acknowledges women's economic, political
and social achievements and pays tribute to their role in
strengthening and connecting communities in this Commonwealth
and beyond; and
WHEREAS, The Senate joins women around the world who are
observing "International Women's Day" without regard to national
boundaries, ethnicity, language, culture or socioeconomic
status; and
WHEREAS, The Senate commemorates the struggle for women's
rights and applauds women's notable progress and aspirations
relative to equality, justice, peace and global development; and
WHEREAS, Women in this Commonwealth, who comprise more than
50% of the population, and women around the world are
steadfastly pursuing these goals despite recessions, wars or
unrest, disease, oppression and the burdens of poverty; and

WHEREAS, The first "International Women's Day" was held in
1911 during a time of great expansion and turbulence in the
industrialized world; and
WHEREAS, Significant attention to working conditions and
labor legislation in the United States became the focus for the
1911 observance and subsequent events, and now each year
"International Women's Day" is celebrated on March 8; and
WHEREAS, Annually, on "International Women's Day," thousands
of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and
celebrate the social, political and economic achievements of
women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further
action; and
WHEREAS, The 2025 theme of "International Women's Day" is
"Accelerate Action"; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth can accelerate action by committing
to swift and decisive efforts to achieve gender equality,
addressing systemic barriers and biases that women face in both
personal and professional spheres and elevating the strategies
and resources that have proven effective in advancing women's
progress; and
WHEREAS, By supporting initiatives that empower women and
girls in numerous areas, including economic opportunity,
leadership, education, health care and sustainable development,
and by fostering solidarity with organizations working to
advance gender equality, the Commonwealth can amplify meaningful
change; and
WHEREAS, The theme "Accelerate Action" calls for a collective
commitment to create lasting impact by challenging stereotypes,
celebrating women's achievements and promoting women-focused
fundraising efforts that strengthen the critical work being done

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize March 8, 2025, as
"International Women's Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate respectfully acknowledge women's
rich and diverse accomplishments and tireless aspirations.
