A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 29, 2025, as "Vietnam War Veterans Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Senate joins in paying tribute to United States
military personnel called to active duty between November 1,
1955, and May 15, 1975, whether in-country, in-theater or
deployed elsewhere in support of operations in Southeast Asia;
and
WHEREAS, More than 9 million Americans were on active duty
during that period, with an estimated 2.7 million serving in-
country or in-waters; and
WHEREAS, More than 58,000 service members, including nearly
3,150 Pennsylvanians, were killed in action; and
WHEREAS, More than 300,000 Americans were wounded; and
WHEREAS, A reported 2,500 Americans were held as prisoners of
war; and
WHEREAS, The United States Department of Defense has
indicated that 1,587 Americans are unaccounted for in Southeast

WHEREAS, In 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated
in the District of Columbia to commemorate those members of the
United States Armed Forces who died or were declared missing in
action in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, a presidential proclamation designated
March 29 as the annual observance of Vietnam War Veterans Day;
and
WHEREAS, In 2017, the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act
was signed into law, designating March 29 as National Vietnam
War Veterans Day and amending the United States Flag Code to
include it as a day on which the flag should be flown; and
WHEREAS, On October 29, 2024, Senate Bill 1160 was signed
into law as Act 124 of 2024, following its unanimous support in
the General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, Act 124 designates March 29 of each year as Vietnam
War Veterans Day in the Commonwealth and requires the Governor
to issue an annual proclamation encouraging all public schools
and educational institutions to observe the day by recognizing
the contributions of those involved in the Vietnam War and
honoring their sacrifices; and
WHEREAS, On this day, we honor and give thanks for the
service and sacrifice of Vietnam War veterans and their families
and for the valor of service members killed or missing in
action; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize March 29, 2025, as
"Vietnam War Veterans Day" in Pennsylvania.
