A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and extending condolences to the family of
Officer Andrew William Duarte.
WHEREAS, Officer Andrew William Duarte gave his life in the
line of duty on February 22, 2025, at the age of 30; and
WHEREAS, Born in Oakland, California, on February 17, 1995,
Officer Duarte was the son of Gary Duarte and Thelma Valdez and
Nancy Underhill Duarte Matarese and David Matarese; and
WHEREAS, A 2013 graduate of Berean Christian High School,
Officer Duarte earned a bachelor's degree in criminal
justice/police science from the California University of
Pennsylvania in 2016; and
WHEREAS, Officer Duarte began his career in law enforcement
as a seasonal officer with the Ocean City Police Department in
Maryland during the summer of 2016; and
WHEREAS, Officer Duarte then worked for the Denver Police
Department in Colorado from 2017 to 2022, during which time he

graduated as a Drug Recognition Expert, received the highest
test score recorded in the nationally recognized class and was
lauded as the youngest police officer to achieve the
certification in the State of Colorado at the time; and
WHEREAS, In 2021, Officer Duarte was recognized as the
Mothers Against Drunk Driving Colorado Hero of the Year for his
dedication and enforcement of impaired driving; and
WHEREAS, For the past three years, Officer Duarte was a
member of the West York Borough Police Department and in his
free time, he enjoyed taking photographs, playing guitar,
hiking, traveling and spending time with his family; and
WHEREAS, Since his enlistment, Officer Duarte faithfully
endeavored to preserve and protect the health, safety and
welfare of his fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS, In the finest hour of public service, Officer Duarte
demonstrated exemplary knowledge, ability and integrity in
carrying out his many responsibilities and earned deep respect
and gratitude for his tireless devotion to duty; and
WHEREAS, Officer Andrew William Duarte's life greatly
benefited all those who lived, served and worked with him;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the life and extend
condolences to the family of Officer Andrew William Duarte.
