A RESOLUTION
Designating March 18, 2025, as "COVID-19 Day of Remembrance" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Every single human being's life was affected and
forever changed in early 2020 when coronavirus disease 2019,
known as COVID-19, sent the world into lockdown; and
WHEREAS, On March 6, 2020, Governor Tom Wolf confirmed this
Commonwealth's first two COVID-19 cases, one in Delaware County
and another in Wayne County; and
WHEREAS, The week of March 16, 2020, the everyday lives of
Pennsylvanians were completely shut down and life as they knew
it would never be the same; and
WHEREAS, The first COVID-19 death in this Commonwealth was
recorded March 18, 2020; and
WHEREAS, As family events and social gatherings were
canceled, Pennsylvanians quarantined themselves and sacrificed
time with family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Financial hardships ensued, threatening the loss of
housing and employment, and causing thousands of local small

businesses to reduce their hours, some never to return post-
pandemic; and
WHEREAS, Educators grappled with how to continue to teach our
children while the world adjusted to online and hybrid learning;
and
WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, the rate of
hospitalizations and patients in nursing care facilities
increased daily to the point of overcapacity, limiting visits to
loved ones and causing our health care workers to be overworked
and understaffed; and
WHEREAS, As reported by the Department of Health, 18,244
Pennsylvanians lost their lives to this horrible disease by the
end of 2020, an additional 20,435 Pennsylvanians succumbed by
the end of 2021 and as of March 8, 2025, we have lost a total of
56,813 Pennsylvanians since 2020; and
WHEREAS, Due to social distancing measures that were imposed
to prevent COVID-19 from spreading further, many families were
unable to provide their loved ones a proper funeral or memorial
service; and
WHEREAS, As COVID-19 continues to make people sick, awareness
of the continuing threat is absolutely essential to prevent
avoidable deaths; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate March 18, 2025, as
"COVID-19 Day of Remembrance" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize all Pennsylvanians who
have passed from COVID-19, their families, our health care
heroes and essential workers and others affected by COVID-19.
