H7166 2026 -- H 7166 ======== LC003475 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N PROCLAIMING JANUARY 18TH-24TH, 2026, TO BE "CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE ANESTHETISTS WEEK" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND Introduced By: Representatives Corvese, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, Paplauskas, J. Brien, Solomon, Casey, O'Brien, and McNamara Date Introduced: January 20, 2026 Referred To: House read and passed 1 WHEREAS, January 18th - 24th of 2026, has been designed as "National CRNA Week" in 2 order to celebrate and recognize the work of CRNAs across the United States; and 3 WHEREAS, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are advanced practice 4 registered nurses, who have provided anesthesia care to patients in the United States for more 5 than 150 years, and are among the nation's most trusted professions; and 6 WHEREAS, Legislation passed by Congress in 1986 made nurse anesthetists the first 7 nursing specialty to be accorded direct reimbursement rights by Medicare; and 8 WHEREAS, CRNAs are primary anesthesia providers in rural communities and continue 9 to be the primary providers of anesthesia care to U.S. military personnel; and 10 WHEREAS, CRNAs practice in every setting in which anesthesia is delivered, from 11 traditional hospital surgical suites and obstetrical delivery rooms to critical access hospitals; from 12 ambulatory surgical centers to the offices of dentists, podiatrists, ophthalmologists, pain 13 managements specialists and more; and 14 WHEREAS, CRNAs are qualified to make independent judgments regarding all aspects 15 of anesthesia care based on their education, training, and licensure; and 16 WHEREAS, CRNAs are trusted anesthesia experts on the frontlines, caring for patients 17 safely and compassionately, delivering specialized, cost-effective care to all patients from 18 newborns to seniors, and for every type of procedure in all types of facilities; and 19 WHEREAS, CRNAs courageously served on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic, 1 and used their advanced skills in airway management, intubation and ventilator management to 2 care for the sickest patients, as well as left their homes and families to travel to hospitals and 3 facilities across the country, in order that they could assist where the need was greatest; now, 4 therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 6 proclaims January 18-24, 2026, to be "Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Week" in Rhode 7 Island and furthermore recognizes the importance of the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists 8 and nurse anesthesia residents and their role in providing high-quality care for the public; and be 9 it further 10 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 11 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island Association of Nurse 12 Anesthetists (RIANA). ======== LC003475 ======== LC003475 - Page 2 of 2
