HONORING AND THANKING JACKIE HERSEY FOR HER MANY YEARS OF SERVICE
TO THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND AND CONGRATULATING HER ON THE
OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT

WHEREAS, The extraordinary commitment of individuals who share their time, talents
2
and knowledge is one of the most valued assets at the Rhode Island State House. Whether it is in
3
the chamber or in the various offices that support the legislative process, dedication and mental
4
acumen are essential components in ensuring the sound development of this State; and
5
WHEREAS, Since 2001, the fortunate citizens of the Ocean State have been the
6
beneficiaries of the wisdom, humor, and abiding dedication to her job that Jackie Hersey has
7
always brought to her work as a valued employee of the Rhode Island House of Representatives;
8
and
9
WHEREAS, In preparing for her future, Jackie Hersey graduated from Cranston East
10
High School, attained her Associate’s degree from Johnson and Wales University, and has taken
11
myriad courses at URI, CCRI, PC, and RIC over the years; and
12
WHEREAS, Most currently working as an Administrative Assistant, Jackie’s
13
responsibilities include compiling and inputting vast amounts of legislative data and preparation
14
of the Director of Law Revision’s Annual Report. In addition, working in the Speaker’s office,
15
she prepares and creates an organized system for all the bills introduced by the House of
16
Representatives during the legislative session; and
17
WHEREAS, Jackie makes her family home in the City of Cranston with her husband,
18
Dave, and her daughter, Nichole, although if she could, she would perhaps permanently take up
19
residence at Spain Restaurant; and

WHEREAS, Jackie does not seem to know the meaning of “impossible task” and
2
although her mantra would probably not be best described through the words of her beloved
3
Elvis, “A little less conversation, a little more action please”, she has consistently illustrated the
4
kind of amazing influence that one person’s kindness can have on the lives of those around them;
5
and
6
WHEREAS, An apt description of Jackie Hersey might be William Shakespeare’s quote,
7
“Though she be but little, she is fierce”. With a lightning quick wit and a pure heart of gold,
8
Jackie is an admired and beloved friend to her co-workers and the House membership. She has
9
touched the lives, hearts, and funny bones of so many people and her absence from the State
10
House will be keenly felt for many sessions to come; now, therefore be it
11
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby
12
joins the family, co-workers, and countless admirers in recognizing, honoring and thanking Jackie
13
Hersey on the occasion of her retirement after twenty-four years of steadfast service to the House
14
of Representatives and the people of the State of Rhode Island. We moreover wish her a long,
15
happy and healthy retirement; and be it further
16
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
17
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Jackie Hersey.
