H7832 2026 -- H 7832 ======== LC003506 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N PROCLAIMING MARCH 1ST THROUGH MARCH 5TH, 2026, AS "PEACE CORPS WEEK" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND Introduced By: Representatives O'Brien, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Biah, Chippendale, Solomon, Casey, Edwards, Slater, and Corvese Date Introduced: February 26, 2026 Referred To: House read and passed 1 WHEREAS, The Peace Corps is an organization guided by committed individuals who 2 provide their leadership and support and, like volunteers, have the same spirit of dedication to the 3 work of the agency; and 4 WHEREAS, The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then-Senator 5 John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the 6 cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an 7 agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship; and 8 WHEREAS, Since that time, more than 240,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 9 more than 140 host countries to work on issues ranging from AIDS education to information 10 technology and environmental preservation; and 11 WHEREAS, Today's Peace Corps is more vital than ever, contributing to emerging and 12 essential areas such as information technology, business development, and the President's 13 Emergency Plan for AIDS relief. Peace Corps Volunteers continue to help countless individuals 14 who want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their communities; now, 15 therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 17 proclaims March 1st through March 5th, 2026, as "Peace Corps Week" in the State of Rhode 18 Island. We commend the Peace Corps and all those who have served as Peace Corps volunteers 19 for the great contributions they have made to world peace and understanding, for the betterment 1 of the lives of the citizens of the countries where volunteers have served and of our own nation; 2 and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 4 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Paul Shea, Chief Executive Officer, Peace 5 Corps. ======== LC003506 ======== LC003506 - Page 2 of 2
