H8201 2026 -- H 8201 ======== LC005685 ======== STATE OF RHODE ISLAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026 ____________ J O I N T R E S O L U T I O N MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO HIGHER GROUND INTERNATIONAL TO SUPPORT THEIR CRITICAL WORK SUPPORTING IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEE POPULATIONS Introduced By: Representative Scott Slater Date Introduced: February 27, 2026 Referred To: House Finance 1 RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated to HIGHER GROUND 2 INTERNATIONAL, a Rhode Island domestic nonprofit corporation, the sum of two hundred 3 fifty thousand dollars ($250,000), out of any monies in the treasury not otherwise appropriated for 4 fiscal year 2026-2027, to support Higher Ground International’s critical work with and supporting 5 immigrants and refugee populations including, but not limited to, Liberian and West African 6 immigrants, refugees, and other marginalized communities within the state. This work includes, 7 but is not limited to, providing basic needs supplies, literacy and language classes, clinical 8 therapy, job skills training, immigration assistance, transportation, the Sweetie Care African 9 Elders Enrichment Program, and case management services, to ensure those who come from 10 marginalized communities have the tools they need to thrive, with a particular focus on 11 communities within the West End neighborhoods of Providence.
