WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Martha
2
M. Farrell of Cumberland on February 21, 2026, at the age of seventy-one; and
3
WHEREAS, Martha was the devoted wife of Thomas C. Farrell for nearly fifty years,
4
and together they shared a lasting and loving marriage that began during the historic Blizzard of
5
1978 at a Newport Creamery in Cumberland; and
6
WHEREAS, Born in Central Falls to the late James and Claire Pratt, Martha carried
7
forward the values of family, faith, and service throughout her life; and
8
WHEREAS, Martha dedicated her professional life to nursing, providing compassionate
9
and skilled care to patients and families throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. During her
10
career, she served at Emerson Hospital, Memorial Hospital, Women & Infants Hospital, Sturdy
11
Memorial Hospital, and Fuller Hospital, exemplifying professionalism, dedication, and kindness;
12
and
13
WHEREAS, In addition to her professional career, Martha was deeply committed to her
14
community. She volunteered in her children’s schools and at her church, worked with Marriage
15
Equality Rhode Island, served as a mentor, and was a member of the Cumberland School
16
Committee; and
17
WHEREAS, Through her steady presence in her neighborhood and community, she
18
fostered goodwill, friendship, and a spirit of generosity that touched many lives; and
19
WHEREAS, She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas C. Farrell; her children,
20
Ellen Thomas and her husband, Stafford, Christopher Farrell, and Colleen Farrell; her sister,

Claire Sweeney; and her grandchildren, Stafford and Matthias Thomas; now, therefore be it
2
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby
3
expresses its deepest sympathy on the passing of Martha M. Farrell and extends its sincere
4
condolences to her family and friends; and be it further
5
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
6
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Thomas C. Farrell and Family.
