EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF FLORIAN L. BOURGET

WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Florian
2
L. “Flo” Bourget of Woonsocket. He was the loving husband of Suzanne Bourget for more than
3
47 years; and
4
WHEREAS, Florian Bourget was born in Woonsocket, the son of the late Armand and
5
Cecile Bourget. He was raised in the Social Coin neighborhood in the shadow of St. Ann’s
6
Parish; and
7
WHEREAS, In 1978, Florian and his wife relocated to Florida where his professional
8
responsibilities led him to work for NASA at the John F. Kennedy Space Center at Cape
9
Canaveral. While at NASA, Florian was employed by USBI and later Morton-Thiokol. Florian
10
witnessed numerous space shuttle launches while he served an integral role as part of the team at
11
the space shuttle booster assembly and refurbishment facility; and
12
WHEREAS, In 1986, Florian and his wife moved back to Woonsocket. A hardworking
13
man, Florian strived daily throughout his entire life to provide for his family and loved ones.
14
After returning to Rhode Island, Florian worked in various positions for Garelick Farms, Pepin
15
Lumber, Valley Transportation, and at Woonsocket City Hall; and
16
WHEREAS, Mr. Bourget was an active parishioner at the former St. Ann’s Church. He
17
was also involved in various church ministries and activities, including the youth group, men’s
18
club, bingo, and meat raffles. After the merger of All Saints Parish with St. Ann’s, Florian served
19
as a member of the All Saints church finance council. Most recently, Florian and his wife
20
Suzanne were active members of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Cumberland; and

WHEREAS, Florian also served the wider community as a member of the Autumnfest
2
steering committee for many years and was a longtime member of the Cercle Laurier. In his free
3
time, Florian enjoyed woodworking, playing solitaire and watching television with his wife and
4
beloved dog, Buddy; and
5
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Suzanne, Mr. Bourget leaves behind his children,
6
Agnes Back and her husband, Glenn, Melissa Orlando-Bryda and her significant other, Bill Bryda
7
and Jeannine Zahler and her husband, Keith. Florian was the brother of the late Roger, Andre, and
8
Laurent Bourget, Jeannine Lamoore, Rita Tarvis and Agnes Poulin. He is also survived by his
9
many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; now, therefore be it
10
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its deepest
11
condolences on the passing of Florian L. “Flo” Bourget; and be it further
12
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
13
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Suzanne Bourget and Family.
