EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF FRANCIS D. LANDRY, JR.

WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Francis
2
Landry; and
3
WHEREAS, Francis D. Landry, Jr., a lifelong Newporter until his medical diagnosis, was
4
born in Norwich, Connecticut in 1952; and
5
WHEREAS, Francis was a devoted family man who strove every day of his life to
6
provide for his loved ones. He was a hardworking man who often worked as many as ninety
7
hours a week as a water treatment plant operator for the City of Newport for thirty years. Prior to
8
that, Mr. Landry was an automotive salesman at the former Newport Autocenter, where he sold
9
Fords, Hyundais and Jeeps, always doing so with a smile and with the utmost integrity; and
10
WHEREAS, Mr. Landry was also a lifelong advocate for workers’ rights and served as
11
the President of his Union for the City of Newport. Mr. Landry also served on the Newport
12
Housing Authority, and played a key role in the founding of Newport Heights; and
13
WHEREAS, In his free time, Francis was a big sports fan who could be found
14
passionately cheering on his beloved Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the Boston
15
Celtics. Mr. Landry was also a man of deep faith in God who found great peace and solace living
16
out his faith; and
17
WHEREAS, Francis Landry is survived by his daughters, Meagan and Gretchen Landry,
18
and his siblings, Michael, Paul, Kathleen, and Carol, as well as many nieces, nephews and
19
cousins and his “granddogs”, Bailey, Boomer, and Oreo. Mr. Landry was predeceased by his
20
parents, Francis and Margaretta Kenney Landry, and his sister, Cheryl McCarthy; now, therefore

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its deepest
3
condolences on the passing of Mr. Francis D. Landry Jr.; and be it further
4
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
5
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Meagan Landry and Gretchen Landry.
