MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $2,000,000 TO THE ELISHA PROJECT

WHEREAS, Thousands of Rhode Island families experience food insecurity at a given
2
point each year; and

WHEREAS, The Elisha Project is a 501(c)3 organization, whose operations center is
4
located in Pawtucket, is dedicated to combatting food insecurity in Pawtucket and elsewhere in
5
the Blackstone Valley and in the State of Rhode Island; and
6
WHEREAS, The Elisha Project is a movement that is focused on bringing diverse
7
communities together through service, sharing, teaching and learning – in order to make a
8
positive impact in all communities; and
9
WHEREAS, The Elisha Project is a community safety net that provides food and other
10
necessities to people who are in need every day, and as costs for families continue to be high, the
11
need for the Elisha Project’s assistance will most assuredly increase; and
12
WHEREAS, The Elisha Project serves all aspects of the community, including providing
13
programming specifically for children, veterans, and families; and
14
WHEREAS, Since its founding, the Elisha Project has shared over twenty million meals
15
to deserving families; now, therefore be it
16
RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not
17
otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2026-2027, the sum of two million dollars ($2,000,000)
18
to the Elisha Project; and the state controller is hereby authorized and directed to draw his orders
19
upon the general treasurer for the payment of said sum, or so much thereof as may be from time

to time required, upon receipt of properly authenticated vouchers.
