RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE
THE CARDINAL NEWMAN SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR
AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
W
hereas, the Cardinal
Newman boys soccer dynasty rolled on in dominating fashion on Saturday, May 10,
2025, when the Cardinals captured the title at the South Carolina Independent
School Association state championship game, held at St. Sebastian Stadium in
Columbia; and
W
hereas, Tanner
Battafarano scored three goals as the Cards survived an early scare to defeat
Porter-Gaud 6-2 and earn the coveted 4A soccer crown; and
W
hereas, it was the
Cardinals' sixth straight state championship and the program's thirteenth
overall, with eleven coming under Coach Will Eudy; and
W
hereas, Cardinal
Newman didn't waste time getting on the board as Battafarano scored in the
game's first minute. Porter-Gaud tied things in the nineteenth minute on a
penalty kick. But Battafarano and the Cards answered as the junior drilled in a
rebound in the twenty-sixth minute to make it 2-1. Battafarano completed his
hat trick in the sixtieth minute to give the Cards a 5-1 lead. It was the third
straight year a Cardinal Newman player had a hat trick in the championship
game; and
W
hereas, Cardinal
Newman's Dakota Venugopal, Brayden Roth, and Chase Nelson also added goals that
helped the Cards reach the top of the mountain once again at the title game;
and
W
hereas, in a sport
that demands speed, agility, and accuracy, Coach Eudy and his skilled coaching
staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and experience to build a
championship-caliber team and teach these athletes life principles that will
endure beyond the pitch; and
W
hereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition that
the Cardinal Newman soccer players have brought to their school and community,
and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the
days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the
House
of Representatives
:
That the members of the South Carolina
House of Representatives
, by this resolution, congratulate
the Cardinal Newman School boys soccer team, coaches, and school officials for
an outstanding season and for winning the 2025 South Carolina Independent
School Association Class 4A State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution
be presented to Principal Charles Assey and Coach Will Eudy of Cardinal Newman
School.
