A House RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND
SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE
PASSING OF CAROLE JENKINS COOPER AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LOVING
FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
W
hereas, members of the
South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of
Carole Jenkins Cooper at the age of eighty-six on Monday, September 22, 2025;
and
W
hereas, born in
Columbia on February 9, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Elise Ford
Jenkins and Douglass Kiels Jenkins, DDS. Mrs. Cooper was educated at Waverly
Elementary School and C.A. Johnson High School before earning her bachelor's
degree from Fisk University in 1960, where she joined the Alpha Beta Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Upon graduation she returned to Columbia to
marry the love of her life, the late Noble Percival Cooper, DDS on June 11,
1960. The Coopers were blessed with three sons; Noble Percival Jr., Ford
Sawyer, and Martin Douglass; and
W
hereas, known to her
children as "Mom," her grandchildren as "Grandmama" and "Momma," and her
extended family and friends as "Aunt Carole," she began her teaching career at
W.A. Perry Middle School and will be remembered for her passion for education.
With faith as her anchor, she served for many years at St. Luke's Episcopal
Church as both a lector and a lay eucharistic minister; and
W
hereas, known for her
impeccable style and natural grace, she was deeply engaged in her community and
her circle of friends. She found joy hosting lively bridge games, cherished her
membership at the Columbia chapters of The Links, Inc., The Girlfriends, Inc.,
the National Smart Set, Inc., and Jack & Jill of America, Inc. She was
honored to serve the Central Carolina Community Foundation on its grant
selection committee; and
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and
legacy of Carole Jenkins Cooper and for the example of loving kindness, close
friendship, and joyful service she set. Now, therefore,

e it resolved by the
House of Representatives:
T
hat the members of the
South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express profound
sorrow upon the passing of Carole Jenkins Cooper and extend deepest sympathy to
her loving family and many friends.
B
e it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Carole Jenkins
Cooper.
