RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Dr. Phillip Reynolds, pastor
of First Baptist Church of Manning, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER forty
YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN
ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Dr. Phillip
Reynolds will begin a well-deserved retirement after forty years of ministry,
the last eight of which have been as a distinguished and highly regarded pastor
of First Baptist Church of Manning; and
W
hereas, born in
Sumter, Phillip is the son of Condy and Ann Reynolds and graduated from Wilson
Hall in 1977 where he played football and baseball. In 1978, he and his beloved
wife, the former Betsy James, were married; and
W
hereas, he earned a
bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina in 1981 in English and
served as the student body president his senior year. In 1985, he moved his
young family, now with two young boys, Jason and James, to attend seminary in
Wake Forest at Southeastern Seminary to follow his call to ministry which he
first felt as a teenager; and
W
hereas, during
seminary Mr. Reynolds served as the pastor of college and youth at Buies Creek
First Baptist Church. After earning a Master of Divinity degree in 1988, he
became the pastor of Lawndale Baptist Church in Lawndale, and another son,
John, was added in 1988 and then a daughter, MaryBeth in 1990; and
W
hereas, the growing
family moved to Columbia, where he served as pastor of Kathwood Baptist Church
for nearly fourteen years. In 1999, he earned a Doctor of Divinity degree from
Richmond Theological Seminary. In 2004, he moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where
he served as pastor of University Baptist Church until 2011; and
W
hereas, after rearing
four fine children, the Reynolds began to enjoy the affection of nine loving
grandchildren, and Dr. Reynolds moved to Hickory, North Carolina, to serve as
pastor of First Baptist Church of Hickory, where he served until 2017. He was
called in 2017 as pastor of First Baptist Church of Manning, which is just a
few miles down the road from where he was reared in Pinewood. Today, after
serving the Lord in five churches for forty years, he has earned the
appreciation of many who celebrate God's faithfulness in his call to ministry;
and
W
hereas, grateful for
his four decades of meaningful and devoted ministry, the South Carolina House
of Representatives takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Phillip
Reynolds as he transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the unhurried pace
of the days ahead, and the members wish him many years of enjoyment in his
well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,
B
