RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE Berkeley HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
TEAM ON AN IMPRESSIVE SEASON AND TO CELEBRATE THE Stags' CAPTURE OF THE 2025
CLASS AAAAA Division ii STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

W
hereas, on Saturday,
May 31, 2025, the members of the Berkeley High School baseball team became
state champions for the second time in program history. The Stags defeated the
Upper State champion, Catawba Ridge, by sweeping the best-of-three Class AAAAA
Division II championship series, capping the team's 11-game winning streak by
going 7-0 in the playoffs. It was the team's first championship win since their
previous victory in 2022; and

W
hereas, Berkeley
pulled together a stellar victory, arriving somewhat unexpectedly in comparison
to their previous championship win from three years prior. Game 1 of the series
produced a tight 10-inning, 2-1 thriller, but the Stags were prepared come Game
2, securing a 9-4 win against the Copperheads. Berkeley went 22-10 to cap off their
season on the diamond; and

W
hereas,

the Stags started out scoring twice in the top of
the second inning and once more in the top of the third to go up 3-0. This was
answered by Catawba Ridge, where the Copperheads tallied their first run with
the bases still loaded. Berkeley quickly eliminated the threat, however,
shutting down the home team with a
6-4-3
double play; and

W
hereas, the Stags led 8-1
after the end of the fourth inning, with Bryce Olheiser hitting a two-run
single to the right field to solidify the team's momentum. It was Berkeley
starter Keller Wofford who earned the win on the mound. Wofford fired 4.1 innings
for a total of five strikeouts, while allowing four hits and three runs. Hunter
Morris followed up at the end, hurling 2.2 innings with three hits and allowing
one run; and

W
hereas, the Stags tallied up a
total of 12 hits. Notably, right fielder Devon Hogue went 3-for-4 and third
baseman Easton Little went 2-for-4 to drive Berkeley to their victory. First
baseman Bryson Heath, outfielder Ryan Richardson, and catcher Braylend Booker
drove in runs, as well, alongside Olheiser's two RBIs; and

W
hereas, over the course of the
series, Head Coach Landy Cox, using his own considerable knowledge and
encouragement, rallied his players into championship-caliber mentalities and
motivated them to scrap for their victory; and

W
hereas, it is a great
pleasure to salute these fine Berkeley High student-athletes and to
congratulate them on the fine display of excellence that earned their school
its second state baseball title. Go Stags! Now, therefore,

B
e it resolved by the
House of Representatives
:

T
hat the members of the
South Carolina
House of Representatives
,
by this resolution, congratulate the Berkeley High School baseball team on an
impressive season and celebrate the Stags' capture of the 2025 Class AAAAA
Division II State Championship title.

B

Head Coach Thomas "Landy" Cox of Berkeley High School.
