to recognize and commend leonardo drs for its
significant investment in south carolina, its contributions to national
defense, and its support of the united states navy's shipbuilding and submarine
programs.

W
hereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that on Friday, January
23, 2026, Leonardo DRS will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony in celebration of their
new naval power systems facility in Charleston, marking a major milestone in
advanced manufacturing and national defense capabilities within the Palmetto
State; and

W
hereas, the new
Charleston naval facility encompasses approximately 140,000 square feet and
represents a substantial investment to expand domestic production capacity in
support of United States Navy submarine and shipbuilding programs including the
Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine program, a cornerstone of the nation's
strategic deterrence; and

W
hereas, the facility
provides state-of-the-art space for advanced manufacturing, final assembly,
system integration, and testing, dedicated to large-scale components for
Leonardo DRS's naval electric power and propulsion systems; and

W
hereas, as the United
States Navy continues to field more power-intensive weapons, sensors, and
advanced computing systems, the need for scalable, integrated power
architectures has become essential to mission success across next-generation
surface combatants and submarines; and

W
hereas, the Charleston
naval facility strategically positions Leonardo DRS to deliver these advanced
power and propulsion architectures at scale, while maintaining the schedule
reliability, quality, and performance required to meet the evolving needs of
the United States Navy and allied maritime forces; and

W
hereas, Leonardo DRS,
through its naval power business, designs and delivers advanced power and
propulsion solutions engineered for the world's most demanding maritime and
battlefield environments, enables support for advanced sensors, directed-energy
systems, high performance computing, and propulsion across surface ships,
submarines, and ground platforms; and

W
hereas, the company's
proven capabilities include Columbia-class submarine power and propulsion
systems, hybrid electric drive technologies, and onboard power solutions that
are reliable, cost-effective, and backed by decades of operational performance;
and

W
hereas, the
establishment of the Charleston naval facility strengthens South Carolina's
role as a critical contributor to national defense, enhances domestic
manufacturing capability, and supports high-skill jobs while fostering
long-term economic growth within the region; and

hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate Leonardo DRS's continued
partnership with the United States Navy and its commitment to innovation,
reliability, and excellence in support of national security and the warfighters.
