RESOLUTION

To recognize and applaud the Green Sea Floyds High
School boys cross-country team on capturing the South Carolina High School
League class A State championship title and to congratulate these athletes and
their coaches on an outstanding season.

W
hereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives was pleased to learn that on Friday, November
14, 2025, Horry County's Green Sea Floyds High School boys cross country team
took home their first South Carolina High School League Class A State
Championship title; and

W
hereas, to the delight
of their dedicated fans, the Trojans defeated a fine group of competitors on the
Aiken Steeplechase course, resulting in their first-ever championship win. A
tumultuous accomplishment for this team of young runners and coaching duo,
Charles and Phyllis Elvington, who have been coaching Green Sea Floyds boys cross
country team for twenty-eight years; and

W
hereas, after narrowly missing
the win last season, the team was determined to take home the title this year.
This determination, mixed with their desire to win for their coaches, pushed
them to victory. Coaches Charles and Phyllis Elvington are known for creating a
family-like atmosphere with their team and putting their athletes first. After
almost three decades of coaching, their team was dead set on getting the
coaches a state championship win; and

W
hereas, off to a good start, a
malfunctioning golf cart used to guide runners around the horse-racing venue
briefly sent the leading pack in the wrong direction. Noticing the error, Trojan
senior Cole Forbus directed his teammates to turn around, adding another quarter
mile to the race. Despite this setback, the Trojan's won with fifty-three
points, besting runner-up Riverwalk Academy, who finished with eighty-eight
points; and

W
hereas, the Trojans
had four top ten runners, including Cole Forbus who finished third with a time
of eighteen minutes and five seconds. Damian Rapa finished in fourth place clocking
a time of eighteen minutes and six seconds, Blakeley Mincey placed ninth with a
time of eighteen minutes and twenty-three seconds, and Payton Turner landed in
tenth place with a time of eighteen minutes and thirty-two seconds; and

W
hereas, in a sport
that demands physical and mental strength, Coaches Charles and Phyllis
Elvington, along with their skilled coaching staff, utilized their own
experiences and passion for the sport to mold a championship caliber team. The
lessons that they have taught these young athletes will continue to prove
invaluable on and off the course for the rest of their athletic careers, as
well as throughout their lives; and

W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the pride and
recognition the Green Sea Floyds High School boys cross country team have
brought to their school and community. They look forward to following the
Trojans' future successes in the days to come. Now, therefore,

B
e it resolved by the
