RESOLUTION
TO HONOR THE NORTHWOOD ACADEMY FOOTBALL TEAM AND
COACHES ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL
ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
W
hereas, not to be
denied the crown, the Northwood Academy football team drove past the Heathwood
Highlanders 61-7 to decisively capture the 2025 South Carolina Independent
School Association Class 4A State Championship on Friday, November 21, 2025;
and
W
hereas, at the title
contest, held at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium in Orangeburg, Northwood quarterback
Kevin Johnson threw for 340 yards and five touchdowns, three of them to Aydan
Hogan, as the Chargers won a state championship for the first time since 2014.
Johnson threw his fifth touchdown pass to open the third quarter. There was a
running clock the rest of the way; and
W
hereas, at the start
of the game, things were looking good for Heathwood. The Highlanders took the
opening kickoff and marched down the field with little resistance, including a
57-yard pass, which set up a five-yard touchdown run, and giving the
Highlanders a 7-0 lead just 53 seconds into the game; and
W
hereas, however, it
was all Northwood after that. The Chargers answered that score with a 36-yard
pass from Johnson to Drew Wolfe that was a harbinger of things to come. By the
time the half was over, Johnson had four touchdown passes, the Chargers had two
rushing scores, and the game stood at 40-7; and
W
hereas, Hogan ended
with seven catches for 126 yards, and Wolfe added five catches for 103 yards
and two touchdowns. The Chargers finished with 440 yards of total offense; and
W
hereas, such triumphs
do not come overnight; they take determination and hard work. With proven
consistency in both, Northwood's Head Coach Johnny Waters, with the able
assistance of his fine staff, built his football program into a championship
team that refused to settle for second best; and
W
hereas, the Northwood
Chargers have given their school and community reason to be proud of their
accomplishments, and the members of the House of Representatives take great
pleasure in adding their collective voice to the many encomiums flowing in to
this outstanding group of young athletes. Now, therefore,
B
e it resolved by the
House of Representatives
:
T
hat the members of the
South Carolina
House of Representatives
,
by this resolution, honor the Northwood Academy football team and coaches on
their impressive win of the 2025 South Carolina Independent School Association
Class 4A State Championship.
B
e it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Christina Furrow, head of
school, and Head Coach Johnny Waters of Northwood Academy.
