RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND
HONOR REBECCA AND RON TUCKER, FOUNDERS OF THE BEAUFORT INTERNATIONAL FILM
FESTIVAL, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM UPON THE TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE
FESTIVAL.

W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the
Beaufort Film Society will host the twentieth anniversary of the Beaufort
International Film Festival (BIFF) from Tuesday, February 17 through Sunday,
February 22, 2026; and

W
hereas, the Beaufort
Film Society, founded by Rebecca and Ron Tucker, is a nonprofit,
member-supported organization, dedicated to providing the highest levels of
entertainment and education to the public from all areas of the film industry.
Through BIFF and its programs, coupled with fun and thought-provoking events, the
society provides the sea island community with a commitment to entertainment,
outreach, and education through film; and

W
hereas, the Tuckers
have built local support far beyond what they dreamed possible when they launched
the inaugural BIFF as a two-day event with approximately 500 attendees. Now,
because of their unwavering commitment, they have established the top-ranked
film festival in South Carolina, consisting of a near week-long celebration with
historical attendance climbing over 17,000; and

W
hereas, the BIFF is
sought out not only by attendees but also film industry participants, resulting
in an astounding 552 film entries for the 2026 festival; and

W
hereas, every year,
the Beaufort Film Society awards the prestigious Pat Conroy Lifetime
Achievement Award to a worthy recipient. The 2026 award will be presented to
acclaimed actor, writer, and director Grainger Hines, also a South Carolina
native, during the 20th Annual Beaufort International Film Festival to honor his
remarkable career, as well as his enduring ties to the South Carolina arts
community; and

W
hereas, with
contagious passion and unmatched professionalism, Ron and Rebecca Tucker have labored
for more than two decades to build a legacy in the Lowcountry that draws film
aficionados from around the world and attracts commitment from a devoted
reservoir of volunteers and supporters, as they celebrate the twentieth
anniversary of BIFF, a milestone that reflects their unwavering commitment to
the arts and to their community; and

W
hereas, from their
days at the Lady's Island Theater through expansion to the University of South
Carolina Beaufort Center for the Arts and ranking among FilmFreeways "Top 100
Best Reviewed Festivals," the Tuckers have advanced BIFF well beyond its
initial boundaries without losing its sense of place; and

W
hereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives values the twenty years of dedication that
Rebecca and Ron Tucker have given to the Beaufort Film Society, and the members
look forward to the continued success of the Beaufort International Film
Festival in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

B
e it resolved by the
House of Representatives
:
