RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE Lucille Dukes Virgil of Darlington
COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Lucille
Dukes Virgil celebrated her one hundredth birthday surrounded by family,
friends, and festivities at St. John's United Methodist Church in Lamar on
Saturday, January 10, 2026; and
W
hereas, the fellowship
hall was decorated in elegant shades of blue, silver, black, and white that
created a joyful atmosphere for the historic occasion. As the celebration
began, Mrs. Virgil was escorted to her special chair at the banquet by her
granddaughter Sharell Wright; and
W
hereas, born early in
1926, in the first quarter of the twentieth century, she has witnessed the many
remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international
developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the first quarter of
the twenty-first century; and
W
hereas, Mrs. Virgil
was born and reared in Lamar and moved to New York where she spent more than
half a century working in the garment industry; and
W
hereas, together with
her beloved husband, the late James Virgil, she reared a fine son, James Virgil
Jr., who blessed her by seeing the continuation of her loving family legacy.
Almost two decades after Mr. Virgil's death, she returned to Lamar where she
has been an inspiration to many. This encouraging centenarian remains active
and faithful in her church and her community; and

hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to honor this daughter
of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday and join
with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary
milestone. Now, therefore,

e it resolved by the
House of Representatives
:

hat the members of the
South Carolina
House of Representatives
,
by this resolution, congratulate Lucille Dukes Virgil of Darlington County on
the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday
celebration and many years of continued health and happiness.

e it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to Lucille Dukes Virgil.
