RESOLUTION
TO DECLARE
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 2026, AS "STO PROGRAMS DAY" IN THE PALMETTO STATE AND TO
ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND BUSINESSES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE
CONSUMER-FACING PROGRAMS OFFERED AT THE STATE TREASURER'S OFFICE.
W
hereas, the State
Treasurer's Office administers multiple programs to benefit the citizens of the
Palmetto State; and
W
hereas, saving for a
college education is an important investment in a child's future. As student
loan debt continues to increase, South Carolina's Future Scholar 529 College
Savings Plan currently serves more than 250,000 families with more than $8
billion in assets under management; and
W
hereas, individuals
with disabilities and their families who care for them should have access to
the same kinds of savings tools that are available to the broader population. The
Palmetto ABLE Savings Program provides over 3,700 individuals with disabilities
in all 46 counties the opportunity to save for their future without losing
government benefits; and
W
hereas, rightful
owners of unclaimed property, or their heirs, always have a right to claim
property held in custody by the State Treasurer's Office. The South Carolina
Unclaimed Property Program returned over $46 million last fiscal year and
currently has more than $1 billion in unclaimed funds available for claim. Now,
therefore,
B
e it resolved by the
House of Representatives
:
T
hat the members of the
South Carolina
House of Representatives
,
by this resolution, declare Wednesday, April 15, 2026, as "STO Programs Day" in

e it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Curtis M. Loftis
Jr., Treasurer of the State of South Carolina.
