RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE COURAGE, SERVICE, AND
SACRIFICE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S LAW ENFORCEMENT K-9S AND LAW ENFORCEMENT HORSES;
TO REMEMBER AND PAY TRIBUTE TO THOSE THAT HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE LINE OF
DUTY; AND TO EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THIS STATE.
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives recognize that law enforcement K-9s
and law enforcement horses serve as vital partners to the men and women of law
enforcement agencies across this State; and
W
hereas, these highly
trained law enforcement animals assist in criminal apprehension, narcotics
detection, explosives detection, search and rescue operations, tracking of
missing persons, crowd control, disaster response, and the protection of their
handlers in dangerous and unpredictable situations; and
W
hereas, law
enforcement K-9s and law enforcement horses routinely face significant risk of
injury and death while performing their official duties, often placing them
directly in harm's way to safeguard officers and citizens alike; and
W
hereas, throughout
South Carolina's history, numerous law enforcement animals have suffered injury
or made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while protecting their
communities; and
W
hereas, the bond
between a law enforcement animal and its handler reflects extraordinary trust,
discipline, and devotion and exemplifies the highest ideals of public service;
and
W
hereas, it is fitting
and proper for this body to formally recognize the indispensable contributions
of these animals and to honor their bravery and sacrifice. Now, therefore,
