RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF Charles Danny "Charlie"
McLean OF Richland COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LARGE AND
LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death
of Charles Danny "Charlie" McLean at the age of eighty-seven on Thursday,
February 19, 2026; and
W
hereas, born in the
Town of Ellenton on January 19, 1939, he was the son of the late Robert Lee
McLean and Ella Muns McLean, and he gave his life to Christ as a young boy in
Jackson, South Carolina; and
W
hereas, Mr. McLean
spent his entire career in law enforcement beginning with the Richland County
Sheriff's Department, then moving to the Forest Acres Police Department (FAPD)
where he became chief of police. After retirement in 1988 from FAPD, he became chief
of security at Richland Fashion Mall for five years and was then hired by the police
department of William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Hospital. After his second retirement,
he went back to work part time for FAPD for twenty years; and
W
hereas, a former
member of the Christian Church of the Disciples of Christ, he served the
congregation over the years as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, choir
member, and trustee, as well as on many committees. He was graced with a
beautiful tenor voice which he sought to use for God's glory; and
W
hereas, Mr. McLean
became a member of the Emmaus Community in 1991, where he actively and joyfully
shared the love of God for many years. He was most recently a member of Red
Bank Fellowship Church; and
W
hereas, known for his
infectious laughter and sense of humor, his love for his family was second only
to his love of God. A devoted family man, he loved and sacrificed with great
humility. Proud of his Scottish ancestry, he loved studying history and
watching the Gamecocks play; and
W
hereas, together with
his beloved wife of forty-seven years, Carolyn H. McLean, he reared six fine
children: David McLean, Brett McLean, Alex McLean, Ken Medlin, Mel Medlin, and
the late Janet Helen McLean; and
W
hereas, his children
blessed "Papa Charlie" with the affection of seven loving grandchildren:
Rebecca Stone, McKenna Medlin, Maggie McLean, Jeanne McLean, Brett McLean, Cali
Medlin, and Zoe Carter; and
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and
legacy of Charles McLean and for the example of devotion and dedication he set
for all who knew him. Now, therefore,
