HAPPINESS.
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Ambrose
"Ricky" Wilson Jr. will be honored at a seventieth birthday celebration on Saturday,
March 28, 2026; and
W
hereas, Mr. Wilson was
born on March 25, 1956, in Georgetown to the late Ambrose Wilson Sr. and Helen
G. Wilson. He was reared in a loving family with six siblings: the late Willie
Mae Bryant, the late Priscilla Evans, Mary Helen, Debra, Undria, and Keddrick.
He first learned carpentry and brick masonry skills alongside his father; and
W
hereas, he attended
J.B. Beck Elementary School and graduated from Howard High School in
Georgetown. After high school, he continued his education at Denmark Technical
College where he further developed carpentry and brick masonry skills, which
would become the foundation of a lifetime of craftsmanship and service to
others; and
W
hereas, after
graduating from Denmark Technical College, Mr. Wilson began a long and
dedicated career with the Charleston County School District. He served at
Lincoln High School for more than thirty-seven years until the school closed in
2016. During his time at Lincoln, he taught carpentry and coached both football
and basketball, positively influencing and mentoring countless students along
the way; and
W
hereas, following the
closing of Lincoln High School, he continued his work with Charleston County
Schools as a maintenance supervisor and a teacher at Burke High School. In
2017, he transitioned to the Georgetown County School District, where he
currently teaches carpentry at Georgetown High School, continuing to share his
knowledge and passion with the next generation; and
W
hereas, for more than forty
years, Mr. Wilson has worked as a contractor known for his exceptional skill
and craftsmanship. He has had a remarkable ability to build or repair almost
anything; and
W
hereas, he has
faithfully served his church, Bethesda, for many years. He has been a trustee
for more than twenty years and chairman of the trustee ministry and finance committee
for more than ten years. He is always willing to go above and beyond wherever
he is needed. It is his responsibility to ensure that the sanctuary is
physically equipped for all services, funerals, and programs and that the
fellowship hall and kitchen are in good standing for meetings, repast, and
fellowship. He ushers whenever he is needed; and
W
hereas, Mr. Wilson is
an avid and successful gardener. He grows a variety of fresh vegetables every
year such as tomatoes, corn, green beans and collard greens. Whatever produce
he does not give to family and friends, he cans and freezes; and
W
hereas, God has truly blessed
Mr. Wilson, and the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for his
dedication to his family, his community, his church, and the many lives he has
impacted throughout the years. His legacy of hard work, service, and generosity
