RESOLUTION
to recognize and honor
kistler-hardee funeral home of darlington and to commend the mortuary for more
than a century of compassionate service to the people of the pee dee region and
the state of south carolina.
W
hereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives
are pleased to recognize institutions that have demonstrated a long-standing
commitment to serving their communities with professionalism, dignity, and
care; and
W
hereas, founded on February 12, 1922, by John Harry "J.H." Kistler,
Kistler Funeral Home began its service to the Darlington community when Mr.
Kistler, a World War I veteran who served in the United States Army Medical
Corps, dedicated his life to caring for families in their time of need; and
W
hereas, after receiving formal training in embalming and funeral
service from respected institutions in North Carolina and Illinois, Mr. Kistler
established the funeral home in Darlington, where it quickly became a trusted
presence for families across the region; and
W
hereas, through the decades, the funeral home continued to grow and
adapt while maintaining its commitment to compassionate service, eventually
relocating to the historic McCown House at the corner of Pearl Street and
Edwards Avenue, believed to be one of the oldest homes in Darlington; and
W
hereas, the Kistler family continued the legacy of service as T. C.
Kistler joined the family business and remained active in both the funeral
profession and public service, including distinguished service on the
Darlington County School Board and the South Carolina State Board of Education;
and
W
hereas, on January 1, 1999, J. Todd Hardee and his wife, Jenny,
assumed ownership of the firm, continuing the tradition of excellence and
adding the Hardee name, forming the respected Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home known
today; and
W
hereas, for more than a century, Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home has
provided comfort, professionalism, and compassionate care to generations of
families during some of life's most difficult moments, earning the trust and
respect of the Darlington community and the entire Pee Dee region; and
W
hereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives
are grateful for the dedication and service of Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home and
recognize the vital role it has played in supporting families and strengthening
the community for more than one hundred years. Now, therefore,

Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
