RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF ANN LOOPER PRYOR OF
CHARLESTON AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death
of Ann Looper Pryor of Charleston on March 6, 2026, at the age of sixty-four;
and
W
hereas, Ann Looper
Pryor graduated from the College of Charleston in 1983 with a bachelor's degree
in political science. A native of Pickens, Ann moved to Washington, D.C., after
graduation and worked on Capitol Hill for Senator Strom Thurmond. She further
worked as a lobbyist for the American Institute of Architects, as well as in
public relations and marketing for the American Society of Landscape
Architects, before taking the post of publisher and managing director for
Landscape
Architecture Magazine
. In 2015, Ann moved with her husband, Greg, to
Charleston to serve her alma mater as vice president for alumni affairs; and
W
hereas, three years
prior to their 2015 move to Charleston, Ann and Greg endowed an internship
program, the W.N. Looper Award, to provide financial resources for internships
on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., to South Carolina students majoring in
either political science or communications. The Looper Award was created in
memory of Ann's father, who attended the College of Charleston after returning
from World War II in 1945 and became an educator, athletics coach, and mentor
to his students and players; and
W
hereas, when asked
what brought her back to the College of Charleston after her career in
Washington, D.C., Ann replied in a way that reflected her deep love for her
alma mater, a love that motivated her to support it strongly in various ways
over the years: "I owe everything I have to the college, and I don't say that
lightly. It prepared me to succeed throughout my career and gave me a network
of connections upon whom I still rely. What better way to show my gratitude
than to use my experience in fundraising, marketing, and event production to
engage fellow alumni to stay informed, get involved, and give back to the
college?"; and
W
hereas, away from the
office, Ann enjoyed indulging her love of dogs, design, books, and baseball.
She was known affectionately as a gracious hostess, Southern lady, and loyal
friend; and
W
hereas, at the end of
her life, Ann fought a brief but valiant battle with non-small cell lung
cancer. Her family would like to urge those who loved Ann to undergo a cancer
screening as a preventive measure; and
W
hereas, Ann Looper
Pryor leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Greg; her loving sister,
Mary; and a host of dear friends, colleagues, and appreciative College of
Charleston students. The members of the South Carolina House of Representatives
are grateful for the life and legacy of Ann Looper Pryor and for the example of
excellence and dedicated service she set for all who knew her. She will be
greatly missed. Now, therefore,
B
e it resolved by the
House of Representatives
:
T
hat the members of the
South Carolina
House of Representatives
,
by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Ann
Looper Pryor of Charleston and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and
many friends.
B
e it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family.
