RESOLUTION
TO HONOR AND
RECOGNIZE THE GRAY COLLEGIATE ACADEMY GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD TEAM AND COACHES
FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING THE SOUTH
CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to hear that on May
16, 2025, the Gray Collegiate girls track and field team won the South Carolina
High School League (SCHSL) AAAA State Championship title; and
W
hereas, Gray
Collegiate won the SCHSL AAAA State Championship title with 61 points, narrowly
defeating runner-up Daniel, who finished with 58 points. It was Gray Collegiate's
second consecutive state championship, as the War Eagles claimed the AA state
title last year; and
W
hereas, the War Eagles
led the Lions by two points 58-56 heading into the final event, the 4x400
relay. The War Eagles team of Tamara Steward, Taylor Jones, Aliyah Edwards, and
Zaira Gaines made sure the lead held up as they finished sixth while the Lions
finished seventh, securing the championship title; and
W
hereas, this win is a
testament to all the hard work and preparation that these young athletes have put
in the entire season. The War Eagles finished the day with several new personal
best times and multiple visits to the medal podium; and
W
hereas, in a sport
that requires strength and endurance, Head Coach Jackie Robinson and her
talented coaching staff utilized their own experience and passion for the sport
to mold a championship-caliber team. The lessons that they have taught these
young athletes will continue to shape them for years to come; and
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition
that the Gray Collegiate Academy girls track and field team has brought to
their school and community. They look forward to hearing of the team's future
accomplishments in the days to come. Now, therefore,
B
e it resolved by the
House of Representatives
:
