RESOLUTION
TO HONOR AND
RECOGNIZE PATRICIA C. GRANT OF COLLETON COUNTY FOR HER MANY YEARS OF ADMIRABLE
WORK AND SERVICE TO THE WALTERBORO COMMUNITY.
W
hereas, Patricia C.
Grant of Colleton County has devoted many years of her life to the tireless
service of her community, making lasting and meaningful contributions to both
Colleton County and the City of Walterboro; and
W
hereas, Mrs. Grant is
a 1966 graduate of Colleton High School and continued her education at South
Carolina State University in Orangeburg; and
W
hereas, Mrs. Grant began
her career with the Colleton County Clerk of Court's Office in 1974, and in
November 2000 was elected clerk of court. She made history as the first African
American to hold a countywide elected office in Colleton County and faithfully
served five terms, running unopposed, until her retirement in 2021. In
recognition of her outstanding service, she was awarded the Order of the
Palmetto on September 28, 2021; and
W
hereas, in April of
2024, during her retirement, Mrs. Grant was appointed by Governor McMaster to
once again serve as clerk of court, fulfilling an unexpired term of her
successor. She faithfully fulfilled this role before retiring for a second time
in January 2025; and
W
hereas, throughout her
distinguished career, Mrs. Grant has been actively involved in numerous civic
and state organizations. She is a former member of the Colleton Medical Center
Board of Trustees and the Colleton County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission
Board, now known as Pillars4Hope. She also served on the Alternative Dispute
Resolution Commission and the South Carolina Clerks of Court and Registers of
Deeds Advisory Committee, to which she was appointed by former South Carolina Supreme
Court Chief Justice Jean Toal; and
W
hereas, Mrs. Grant continues
her service to the community as Treasurer of the Colleton Training School and
Colleton High School Alumni Association. She is also a member of the Colleton
County Voter Registration and Elections Commission and the National Association
for the Advancement of Colored People; and
W
hereas, strong in her faith,
Mrs. Grant is an active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Walterboro, where
she serves as the assistant director of the finance department, Deaconess,
choir member, member of the Pastor Aid Board, and president of the Mt. Olive
Hope Center Board of Directors; and
W
hereas, Mrs. Grant is married
to her beloved husband, Deacon Glenn Grant and together they are the proud
parents of two sons and grandparents of four cherished grandchildren; and
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the hard work and
dedication that Patricia C. Grant has shown to the Walterboro community and the
State of South Carolina throughout her remarkable career. Now, therefore,

by this resolution, honor and recognize Patricia C. Grant of Colleton County
for her many years of admirable work and service to the Walterboro community.
