RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE WESTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL BOYS
BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2026 CLASS AAAAA
DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO SALUTE THEM ON A FINE SEASON.
W
hereas, the air on
your face and the ground under your feet feel different when you reach the top
of the mountain. The Westwood High Redhawks found that out on Thursday, March
5, 2026, when they knocked down defending state champion Greenville 67-55 to
claim the Class AAAAA Division II Boys Basketball State Championship; and
W
hereas, the scene of
this triumph was Columbia's Colonial Life Arena, used by the Redhawks to nail
their first state crown in school history. Westwood's Head Coach Trent Robinson
and Assistant Coach DeMonte Jacobs had the satisfaction of seeing their players
raise hardware only winners get to take home; and
W
hereas, while the
victory marked Westwood's first-ever state title win in boys basketball, the
program had nonetheless had its share of moments in recent years, including
wins over 5A powerhouse Ridge View. But the Redhawks had never advanced to the
state finals until this season, and they made their championship count; and
W
hereas, the third
quarter told the tale. After settling in and cutting the Greenville lead to 33-28
at halftime, the Redhawks outscored Greenville 20-6 in the third quarter to
lead by nine, 49-39. The Redhawks increased their lead to double digits in the
fourth quarter before ending with a 12-point margin of victory. During the
title game, D'Marcus Thomas scored 26 points and Jayden Crews added 23; and
W
hereas, the members of
the Westwood boys basketball team have given their school and community reason
to be proud of their accomplishments, and the House takes great pleasure in
adding its collective voice to the encomiums flowing in to this outstanding group
of young athletes. Go, Redhawks! Now, therefore,
