RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE ORANGEBURG COUNTY
SCHOOL DISTRICT ON THE FINE ACHIEVEMENTS OF ITS CAREER/TECHNICAL STUDENTS AT
THE 2025 SKILLSUSA CHAMPIONSHIPS AND TO WISH THE PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR
INSTRUCTORS MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS.
W
hereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that students of the
Orangeburg County School District came home with some of the nation's highest
career and technical awards from the SkillsUSA Championships, held in Atlanta,
Georgia, on June 25-26, 2025; and
W
hereas, more than six
thousand five hundred students competed at this national showcase of career and
technical education. The SkillsUSA Championships event is the largest skill
competition in the world and covers 1.79 million square feet, equivalent to
thirty-one football fields or forty-one acres; and
W
hereas, first-place
state winners are invited to the event to demonstrate their technical skills,
workplace skills, and personal skills in one hundred fourteen hands-on
competitions, including robotics, automotive technology, drafting, criminal
justice, aviation maintenance, and public speaking; and
W
hereas, the SkillsUSA
Championships event is held annually for students in middle school, high
school, or college/postsecondary programs as part of the SkillsUSA National
Leadership & Skills Conference. This national nonprofit partnership of
students, instructors, and industry is a verified talent pipeline for America's
skilled workforce that is working to help solve the skills gap; and
W
hereas, the following Orangeburg
County School District students received a SkillsUSA Championships medal or
Skill Point certificate: Team A, consisting of Malachi Jean, Duane Butler, and
Aden Foster from Orangeburg Technology Center, was awarded the gold medal in the
National Leadership and Skills Competition for Middle School Chapter Display;
Bristol Gray, a student at Cope Area Career Center, was awarded a Skill Point certificate
in power equipment technology; and Team J, consisting of Alexandra Villeda,
Hayward Jean, and Jayden Bookhart from Orangeburg Technology Center, was
awarded a Skill Point certificate in Chapter Display; and
W
hereas, because
skilled trades are the foundation for all economic development, the House is
especially proud that these career/technical students of the Orangeburg County
School District have been recognized as among the best in the nation. Now,
therefore,

e it resolved by the
House of Representatives
:
T
hat the members of the
South Carolina
House of Representatives
,
by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the Orangeburg County School
District on the fine achievements of its career/technical students at the 2025 SkillsUSA
Championships and wish the participants and their instructors much continued
success.
B
e it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Shawn Foster,
superintendent, and students Malachi Jean, Duane Butler, Aden Foster, Bristol
Gray, Alexandra Villeda, Hayward Jean, and Jayden Bookhart of the Orangeburg
County School District.
