RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MAJOR MATT SHAW, CHIEF DEPUTY
WITH THE LANCASTER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT
AFTER TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND UNWAVERING SERVICE AND TO WISH HIM
CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Major Matt Shaw
will begin a well-deserved retirement after nearly three decades as a
successful law enforcement officer, the last twenty-five years of which have
been as a distinguished and highly regarded officer with the Lancaster County
Sheriff's Office; and
W
hereas, Matt Shaw
began his law enforcement career in 1999 with the City of Laurens Police
Department. Two years later in 2001, he joined the Lancaster County Sheriff's
Office, and he has now completed twenty-seven years of continuous, dedicated
law enforcement service; and
W
hereas, Major Shaw
worked his way up, starting as a sergeant in the Patrol Division, where he
supervised patrol deputies and provided field leadership and operational
guidance. He then began work as a sergeant in the Training Division, overseeing
development and implementation of agency training programs and enhancing
training standards and officer preparedness; and
W
hereas, when he became
a lieutenant (Professional Standards), he managed internal accountability,
ethics, and policy compliance and ensured organizational integrity and
professional conduct. Becoming SWAT commander brought him leadership duties
with high-risk tactical operations. He was responsible for planning, execution,
and team readiness; prioritized safety of personnel and community; and
demonstrated calm, decisive leadership in critical incidents; and
W
hereas, in 2011, he
was appointed chief deputy and took up his duties in overseeing day-to-day
operations of the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, in providing executive
leadership and strategic direction, and in strengthening operational efficiency
and organizational stability. It is from this post that he will retire; and
W
hereas, over the
years, Major Shaw has exemplified servant leadership; demonstrated
professionalism, integrity, and accountability; and earned the respect of
peers, subordinates, and the community. Further, he has consistently proven his
commitment to excellence and ethical law enforcement practices and his ability
to lead in both routine and high-pressure environments; and
W
hereas, his legacy is
shown in his impact and contributions to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office:
his significant role in shaping agency culture and standards, as well as his
labors toward improving training and operational effectiveness and in maintaining
high levels of accountability and professionalism. Last but not least, he will
be remembered for the long-standing leadership that has contributed so
powerfully to agency success and stability; and
W
hereas, firmly
supported by his wife, Meredith, and their children, Mary Grace and Ella, Major
Shaw has found strength for his duties throughout his career. A great part of
his success is due to his family's willing acceptance of the sacrifices made
necessary by the demands of law enforcement service; and
W
hereas, grateful for
his many years of distinguished service, the South Carolina House of
Representatives takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Matt Shaw as
he transitions to a richly earned retirement. The members trust he will fully
enjoy the more leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,
B
