RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF DAISY ROGERS MCDUFFIE OF ROCK
HILL, TO CELEBRATE HER LIFE, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY
AND MANY FRIENDS.

W
hereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives was deeply saddened to learn of the recent
passing of Mrs. Daisy Rogers McDuffie of Rock Hill at the venerable age of one
hundred four; and

W
hereas, Mrs. McDuffie,
the second daughter of the late James and Carrie Wilson Rogers, was born on
February 22, 1922, in Conway; and

W
hereas, in preparation
for her career, this 1940 graduate of Whittemore High School earned a
bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1944 from what was then the
Colored Normal, Industrial, Agricultural, and Mechanical College of South
Carolina. She then served as an educator for thirty-five years; and

W
hereas, in God's good
time, Mrs. Rogers and her late husband, Mr. Dock C. McDuffie Jr., were blessed
with three sons, Roger Kent McDuffie, Dock C. McDuffie III, and the late
Malcolm Bernard McDuffie, who in their turn blessed their parents with
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and

W
hereas, an active
member of her community with a lifetime of service to mankind, Mrs. McDuffie
celebrated her one hundred fourth birthday on February 22, 2026; and

W
hereas, to recognize
Mrs. McDuffie's life and her commitment to community service, in 2024 the
portion of Ogden Road in York County from its intersection with Heckle
Boulevard to its intersection with Harrison Street was named "Daisy Rogers
McDuffie Road" in her honor, with appropriate markers being erected along this
road; and

W
hereas, further honors
have come her way. Most recently, on the occasion of South Carolina State
University's one hundred thirtieth anniversary, Mrs. McDuffie was recognized as
a South Carolina State alumna and a centenarian who had recently celebrated her
one hundred fourth birthday. Other honors include a 1997 resolution from the
South Carolina House of Representatives designating February 22 as "Daisy
Rogers McDuffie Day"; and

W
hereas, Daisy Rogers
McDuffie leaves to cherish her memory a host of family members, friends, and
other admirers. She will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

B
e it resolved by the
House of Representatives
:

T
hat the members of the
South Carolina
House of Representatives
,
by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the passing of Daisy Rogers
McDuffie of Rock Hill, celebrate her life, and extend the deepest sympathy to
