RESOLUTION
To honor and recognize Bradish "brad" J. Waring for
his distinguished legal career and decades of service to the community of
Charleston and the legal profession of South Carolina.
W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to recognize the
accomplishments of Bradish J. Waring; and
W
hereas, Mr. Waring was born on
March 6, 1952, in Charleston to Simons Vanderhorst Waring and Mary Barnwell
Rhett Sparkman Webb. He graduated from Charleston High School and went on to
attend the University of South Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in
1975, followed by a juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School
of Law in 1977; and
W
hereas, Mr. Waring has
devoted nearly fifty years to the practice of law in Charleston, beginning his
distinguished career with the law firm of Young, Clement, Rivers, and Tisdale
and continuing today with Butler Snow's Charleston office; and
W
hereas, over the
course of his career, Mr. Waring has tried more than fifty matters to verdict
and has built a reputation for excellence in complex litigation. He is widely
recognized as one of South Carolina's leading litigators and also serves as a
respected complex civil mediator. His distinguished service further includes
his role as Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of Denmark for North and South
Carolina since 2007. In recognition of his contributions, he was named Knight
of the Order of the Dannebrog in 2016 and Knight First Class of the Order of
the Dannebrog in 2023 by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark; and
W
hereas, he has
rendered exemplary service to the legal profession through numerous leadership
roles, including President of the South Carolina Bar from 2006 to 2007; member
of the South Carolina Judicial Council since 2010; member of the Chief
Justice's Commission on the Profession since 2005; State Bar Delegate for South
Carolina to the American Bar Association from 2009 to 2014; member of the Applied
Behavior Analysis (ABA) National Conference of Bar Presidents; President of the
Southern Conference of Bar Presidents from 2005 to 2006; board member of the University
of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Council since 2018; currently as a board
member of the South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society; and
W
hereas, in addition to
his professional achievements, Mr. Waring has faithfully served the Charleston
community in numerous capacities, including as senior warden of the St. James
Goose Creek Historic Church since 2008, President of the Historic Charleston
Foundation, and was instrumental in the preservation and restoration of the
Charleston County Courthouse through the Friends of the Historic Charleston
Courthouse where he served from 1994 to 2012; and
W
hereas, he has
received numerous recognitions and honors for his commitment and service to the
legal profession of South Carolina, including the University of South Carolina
School of Law Compleat Lawyer Award in 2005, the South Carolina Supreme Court
Chief Justice's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024, and the South Carolina Bar
Foundation DuRant Distinguished Public Service Award in 2025. Now, therefore,

by this resolution, honor and recognize Bradish "Brad" J. Waring for his
distinguished legal career and decades of service to the community of Charleston
and the legal profession of South Carolina.
