RESOLUTION

to honor and congratulate Alma Johnson Cherry of
Aiken County on the occasion of her one hundreth birthday and to extend warmest
wishes for a joyful celebration and continued happiness in the years ahead.

W
hereas, on May 16,
2026, Alma Johnson Cherry of Aiken County will celebrate the remarkable
milestone of her one hundredth birthday; and

W
hereas, born on May
16, 1926, in the close-knit community of Aiken to the late Pinkie Berry Johnson
and John C. Johnson, she was lovingly raised in a devoted family alongside her
six brothers and sisters; and

W
hereas, she is the
cherished granddaughter of Franklin Johnson and Caroline Chavous Johnson on her
paternal side, and Robert Berry and Anna Craig Berry on her maternal side, reflecting
a proud heritage rooted in family, resilience, and tradition; and

W
hereas, the young Alma
received her education in Aiken County, attending Schofield High School and continuing
her studies at Paine College, experiences that helped shape her character, discipline,
and commitment to excellence; and

W
hereas, at an early
age, she began her lifelong walk of faith, first as a member of Zion Hill
Baptist Church in New Ellenton. Later, after she was united in marriage with her
beloved husband, Alonza L. Cherry, they joined Friendship Baptist Church in
Aiken, where she served faithfully as a member of the senior choir and the food
ministry. Through her service, she uplifted others with her voice, generosity,
kindness, and spirit of service; and

W
hereas, Alma and her
husband built a life grounded in love, faith, and family. Their union was
blessed with one son, Lamar Cherry, who married Joyce Tutt, and a cherished
grandson, Marty Cherry, continuing a legacy that she holds dear; and

W
hereas, throughout her
life, Mrs. Cherry worked faithfully in Aiken County until her well-earned
retirement, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and community
members for her strong work ethic, dependability, and quiet strength; and

W
hereas, beyond her professional
and church life, Mrs. Cherry is known for her warm hospitality. She maintains a
welcoming home and finds joy tending her yard with care, and enjoying fellowship
with friends; and

W
hereas, a gifted cook
and baker, she is especially celebrated for her homemade meals and cakes, which
have brought joy and created lasting memories for her family, friends, and
church community; and

W
hereas, even at one hundred
years of age, Mrs. Cherry remains vibrant, active, and independent, continuing
to drive, stay socially engaged, and inspire others with her grace, strength,
and joyful spirit; and

W
hereas, her life is a
testament to enduring faith, resilience, and the power of family and community,
and her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Now, therefore,

hat the members of the
South Carolina
House of Representatives
,
by this resolution, honor and congratulate Alma Johnson Cherry of Aiken County
on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and extend their warmest wishes for
