TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Dr. Shirrie B. Miller UPON
THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER more than forty YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE
in public education, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER
FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Dr.
Shirrie B. Miller will begin a well-deserved retirement after more than forty
years of dedicated service as an educator and administrator within the Sumter Public
School System; and

W
hereas, a lifelong
advocate for education, Dr. Miller earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business
Administration from Morris College and a Master of Education in Business
Education from South Carolina State University. She completed additional
graduate studies at the University of South Carolina and later earned her
Education Specialist degree and Doctorate of Education in Educational
Leadership from South Carolina State University. Her academic accomplishments
reflect her unwavering belief in the transformative power of education and
leadership; and

W
hereas, in February, Dr.
Miller retired as principal of the Sumter Career and Technology Center, where
she has made history as the first African American woman to hold the position.
With more than forty years of service as an educator and administrator within
Sumter's public school system, she has dedicated her career to empowering
students, developing future leaders, and creating opportunities for academic
and career success; and

W
hereas, a dedicated
member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, her commitment to scholarship,
service, sisterhood, and leadership has spanned more than four decades. She was
initiated into the Pi Theta Chapter at Morris College in the spring of 1979. Dr.
Miller has remained steadfast in advancing the mission and ideals of the
organization. She currently serves as Executive Board Chair of the Beta Pi Zeta
Chapter, is a Diamond Life Member, and is ZOL Certified. Throughout her
sorority journey, she has held numerous leadership positions, including president,
first vice president, financial secretary, social action coordinator, awards coordinator,
webmistress, capital campaign coordinator, and Legacy Club coordinator. As a
proud Zeta Legacy, she has inspired her daughter, five nieces, and a
goddaughter to join the sorority she cherishes. She remains committed to
preserving the vision of the founders while helping guide the organization into
the future; and

W
hereas, service has
always been at the heart of Dr. Miller's work, whether through educational
leadership, community engagement, or sorority initiatives, she consistently
exemplifies the principle of service above self. Through various charitable and
outreach efforts, she has helped raise support for organizations serving
families in need, food pantries, homeless populations, school-aged children,
and health-related causes such as the March of Dimes; and

W
hereas, a proud
historian, mentor, and advocate for youth development, Dr. Miller enjoys
traveling, singing, reading, organizing community events, researching
historical narratives, volunteering, and exploring innovative uses of
technology. She is passionate about mentoring young women and ensuring that
future generations understand the importance of leadership, education, and
service; and

W
hereas, Dr. Shirrie B.
Miller's legacy is one of excellence, trailblazing leadership, unwavering
service, and a profound commitment to empowering others. She continues to
inspire all who have the privilege of knowing and serving alongside her; and

W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the years of
unparalleled dedication that Dr. Miller has devoted as an educator and
administrator within the Sumter Public School System and wish her many years of
enjoyment in her well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

of her retirement after more than forty years of exemplary service in public
