Hudson on his twenty-year anniversary as pastor of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church and to recognize him for his outstanding spiritual leadership and service to his community. W hereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to recognize Reverend Douglas M. Hudson as he celebrates his twentieth pastoral anniversary at New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church; and W hereas, a native of Columbia, Douglas M. Hudson is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and the University of South Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physical Education in 1978. He also received a Certificate in Homiletics from Morris College in 2002; and W hereas, among other mentoring programs in the Carolinas, he has graciously volunteered with the mentoring program at Carver Lion Elementary School; and W hereas, Reverend Hudson was appointed pastor at New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church in June of 2006. Since that time, the church has flourished under his faithful leadership; and W hereas, a true servant leader, he chaired the Board of Christian Education for Mount Hebron Progressive Baptist Association from 2011 to 2016, received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award in 2019, served as the moderator of the Mount Hebron Progressive Baptist Association for six years, and was the president of the Midland's Coalition of Churches from 2021 to 2024; and W hereas, Reverend Hudson is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his beloved wife, the former Gloria D. Spruill, will celebrate fifty-three years of marriage on December 13, 2026. Together they reared two children, Deron Hudson and Tonya Martin, and have been blessed with two grandsons, Darien and Donte Hudson; and W hereas, through all he has learned in his leadership experiences, he truly believes what the hymnologist wrote, "We've come this far by faith"; and W hereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives admire the twenty years of faithful service that Rev. Hudson has committed to New Baptist Missionary Church and wish him well in the years to come. Now, therefore, B e it resolved by the House of Representatives : T hat the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives , by this resolution, congratulate Reverend Douglas M. Hudson on his twenty-year anniversary as pastor of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church and recognize him for his outstanding spiritual leadership and service to his community.
