TO DECLARE MARCH 8-14, 2026, AS "GIRL SCOUT WEEK" IN
THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO APPLAUD THE GIRL SCOUT MOVEMENT, GIRL SCOUTS
OF EASTERN CAROLINA, AND GIRL SCOUTS OF SOUTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS TO
MIDLANDS FOR ONE HUNDRED FOURTEEN YEARS OF BUILDING GIRLS OF COURAGE,
CONFIDENCE, AND CHARACTER WHO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

W
hereas, on March 12,
1912, Girl Scouts of the United States of America was founded with a mission to
"build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better
place"; and

W
hereas, at the two
hundred fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence,
it is fitting to reflect that Girl Scouts has been an important part of the
American story, for it launched a girl-led movement that celebrates girls'
independent spirits by encouraging them to embrace their unique strengths and
forge their own opportunities; and

W
hereas, at its core, Girl
Scouts embodies a commitment to community through service and civic engagement.
Girl Scouts are active across the country every day, showing up to serve, lead,
and make a difference in their communities; and

W
hereas, Gold Award
Girl Scouts are trailblazers who collectively dedicate hundreds of thousands of
hours to tackle the most pressing challenges facing their communities and
beyond with measurable, long-lasting, and far-reaching results; and

Whereas, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, by
offering participants 21st-century programming in science, technology,
engineering, and math (STEM); the outdoors; entrepreneurship; and more, enables
girls to make meaningful connections while developing invaluable life skills;
and

W
hereas, 2026 marks the
one hundredth World Thinking Day, an annual celebration hosted by the World
Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and celebrated by Girl Scouts in its
one hundred fifty-three member organizations with the goal of uplifting
international friendship, reflecting on the global Girl Scout movement, and
celebrating girls' voices on important issues that affect girls and young women
across the world; and

hereas, in July 2026,
Girl Scouts will host the 58th National Council Session and the "Girl Scouts
Unite" event, a celebration of all the ways that girls make history. At this
highly anticipated convention, to be held in Washington, D.C., more than ten
thousand Girl Scouts, alums, and supporters will explore, celebrate, and
reflect upon the history of the Girl Scout movement, alongside fellow
changemakers, dreamers, and doers; and

hereas, Girl Scouts of
Eastern Carolina and Girl Scouts of South Carolina--Mountains to
Midlands serves almost seven thousand girls across South Carolina. Now,
therefore,

hat the members of the
South Carolina
Senate
, by this resolution,
declare March 8-14, 2026, as "Girl Scout Week" in the State of South Carolina and
applaud the Girl Scout movement, Girl Scouts of Eastern Carolina, and Girl Scouts
of South Carolina--Mountains to Midlands for one hundred fourteen years of
building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a
better place.
