A joint Resolution
TO DIRECT THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE HOUSE COMMITTEE TO
MODIFY THE MONUMENT ERECTED ON THE state house grounds TO HONOR THE VETERANS OF
SOUTH CAROLINA, SO AS TO ADD a feature in RECOGNITION OF THE UNITED STATES
SPACE FORCE.
W
hereas, the members of the
General Assembly propose an addition to the South Carolina Armed Forces Monument
to include a flag and engraved seal for the United States Space Force; and
W
hereas, the South Carolina
Armed Forces Monument was installed by action of the General Assembly and
efforts of the South Carolina Veterans Monument Commission on November 11, 2005;
and
W
hereas, the South Carolina
Armed Forces Monument includes six flags and corresponding engraved seals which
feature the five branches of the armed forces and the POW-MIA organization; and
W
hereas, the United States
Space Force was established on December 20, 2019, creating the first new branch
of the armed services since 1947; and
W
hereas, the United States
Space Force was not an existing branch of the armed services in 2005 when the
South Carolina Armed Forces Monument was completed; and
W
hereas, the addition of
the United States Space Force to the South Carolina Armed Forces Monument would
complete the representation of all branches of the United States Armed Forces.

upon approval by the Governor.
