RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE Mount Zion African Methodist
Episcopal Church UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS homecoming and its one hundred
eighteenth ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND the church FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF
DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE Calhoun COMMUNITY AND THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF
SOUTH CAROLINA.

W
hereas, the South
Carolina Senate is proud to recognize Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal
Church as it celebrates this important milestone; and

W
hereas, Mount Zion was
organized in the early 1900s and the church's members worshiped under a brush
arbor until 1914, when church members bought a parcel of land and built a
church. Mount Zion was rebuilt in 1954; and

W
hereas, under the
pastorate of the Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Hunter, the church engages and encourages
others through a life-changing journey. The church's mission is to nurture a
diverse and welcoming community, committed to following fearlessly wherever God
leads them, and to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of
Calhoun and the world; and

hereas, the members of
the South Carolina Senate appreciate the dedication and commitment of Mount
Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church to serving the people and the State of
South Carolina. Now, therefore,

e it resolved by the
Senate:

T
hat the members of the
South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Mount Zion African
Methodist Episcopal Church upon the occasion of its Homecoming and its one
hundred eighteenth anniversary and commend the church for its many years of
dedicated service to the Calhoun community and the people and the State of
South Carolina.

B
e it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to the pastor of Mount Zion African
Methodist Episcopal Church, Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Hunter.
