RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR THE COLUMBIA (SC) ALUMNAE
CHAPTER OF DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY INC. FOR ITS OUTSTANDING RECORD OF
EIGHTY-FIVE YEARS OF SERVICE, ADVOCACY, AND CIVIC LEADERSHIP IN THE MIDLANDS OF
SOUTH CAROLINA.
W
hereas, since its
chartering in 1940, the Columbia (SC) alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority Inc. has served more than eight decades as a vital force in advancing
the social, civic, and educational development of the citizens of Columbia and
the greater Midlands community; and
W
hereas, the Columbia
(SC) alumnae chapter has long exemplified the sorority's commitment to
political awareness and involvement, one of its five-point programmatic
thrusts, by creating platforms for education, engagement, and action on issues
impacting residents and families; and
W
hereas, through annual
events such as Delta Day at the Capitol, members of the Columbia (SC) alumnae
chapter and fellow Deltas from across the State of South Carolina come together
to meet with legislators, share community concerns, and participate in meaningful
dialogue that strengthens the bridge between citizens and their elected
representatives; and
W
hereas, the chapter's
consistent engagement with the legislative process reflects its belief that
democracy works best when the voices of all citizens are heard. That consistent
engagement also reflects the chapter's belief that civic participation is both
a right and a responsibility; and
W
hereas, the Columbia
(SC) alumnae chapter is to be commended for its leadership in educating
citizens about public policy, encouraging voter participation, and helping
residents understand how government decisions affect their daily lives; and
W
hereas, ultimately,
organizations like the Columbia (SC) alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority Inc. play an indispensable role in connecting people to government,
empowering voices that have historically gone unheard, and reminding us all
that progress depends on partnership, compassion, and action. Now, therefore,
B
e it resolved by the
Senate
